Discounts

Softwear has two categories of discounts.

  1. A direct discount give at the POS when the sale takes place.
  2. A predefined discount from the back-office called action discounts (on sale discounts).

The two categories of discount can be on the same transaction but not on the same article. If an article is given a discount at the POS, it is no longer a candidate for action discount.

Direct discounts

At the POS a discount can directly be given to an article (s) or to the whole transaction by an authorized user.

The concerned discounts are: fixed discount per article, percentage discount per article, fixed discount per transaction, percentage discount per transaction, change/edit amount, x pieces for y pieces and set price on/off.

Fixed discount per article

A particular article on the transaction can be given a fixed amount for discount.

For example, an article that costs 75,95 euro's can be given 8,00 euro's discount. This article will therefore cost 67,95 euro's. If the article has a quantity of x, the discount will be multiplied by x. This article should not have already had an action discount given to.

Percentage discount per article

A particular article on the transaction can be given a percentage of cost amount for discount.

For example, an article that costs 75,95 euro's can be given a 5 percent discount (which is 3,80 euro's.) This article will therefore cost 72,15 euro's. If the article has a quantity of x, the discount will be multiplied by x. This article should not have already had an action discount given to.

Fixed discount per transaction

A transaction can be given a fixed amount for discount.

For example, a transaction with a total amount of 216,45 euro's can be given a total of 20,00 euro's discount. This transaction will therefore cost 196,45 euro's. The total discount is afterwards deducted equally among all articles on the transaction depending on the individual amount per article. In this case every article will be given a discount 9,24 (20/216,45*100) percent. If this transaction has two articles of 75,95 and 140,50 euro's, the article of 75,95 euro's will get 7,02 euro's discount and the article of 140.50 euro's will get 12,98 euro's discount.
Which will give a total of 20,00 euro's discount. These articles should not have already had an action discount given to.

Percentage discount per transaction

A transaction can be given a percentage of cost amount for discount.

For example, a transaction with a total amount of 216,45 euro's can be given a total of 15,00 percent discount (which is 32,47 euro's.) This transaction will therefore cost 183,98 euro's. The total discount percentage will afterwards be deducted equally among all articles on the transaction depending on the individual amount per article. In this case every article will be given a discount of 15,00 percent. If this transaction has two articles of 75,95 and 140,50 euro's, the article of 75,95 euro's will get 11,39 euro's discount and the article of 140.50 euro's will get 21,08 euro's discount.
Which will give a total of 32,47 euro's discount. These articles should not have already had a action discount given to.

Change amount

The amount of an article can be changed.

For example, an article with an amount of 75,95 euro's can be changed to 70,00 euro's. This automatically gives this article a discount of 5,95 euro's. If the quantity of this article is x, then 5,95 euro's multiplied by x will be deducted from the total amount of this x articles. It is possible that the amount changes from 75,95 euro's to 99,95 euro's, which adds an amount of 24,00 euro's to the cost amount of an article. In this case a discount is not given to an article but a correction is made to the cost amount of an article. Therefore, there will not be any discount but a new price changed. These articles should not have already had an action discount given to.

X pieces for y pieces

This type of discount rule is known as buy x pieces pay for y pieces.

For example, buy 2 articles and pay for 1 piece (or get 1 free.) The article which will be free is the cheapest article of the x pieces. Using our example again: One article of 75,95 euro's and another article of 140,50 euro's; the article of 75,95 euro's will be given free. Therefore both articles will cost 140,50 euro's. But the 75,95 euro's discount will still be deducted from both articles. In this case every article will be given a discount of 32,10 (75,95/216,45*100) percent. The article of 75,95 euro's will get 26,65 euro's discount and the article of 140.50 euro's will get 49,30 euro's discount, which will give a total of 75,95 euro's discount. These articles should not have already had a action discount given to.

Set price on/off

This discount type is similar to fixed discount per transaction and change amount, but partially to only to a particular group of selected articles. First a set price button is activated. Thereafter, articles are scanned, then set price is set off. A total amount of this scanned articles will be shown. And this sub-total amount can be changed to a new sub-total amount. For example, if on a set price on state article of 45,95 euro's, 75,95 euro's and 99,45 euro's are scanned. Set price off will give total of 221,35 euro's. This total amount can be changed to, say 200,00 euro's. Giving a total of 21,35 euro's discount. These total discount will be deducted from each article from a given group of articles selected. In this case every article will be given a discount 9,65 (21.35/221,35*100) percentage. The article of 45.95 euro's will get 4,43 euro's discount, 75,95 euro's will get 7,33 euro's discount and 99,45 will get 9,59 euro's discount. Which will of cause give a total of 21,35 euro's discount. This articles should not have already had a action discount given to.

Action discounts

Periodically a shop can put some articles on sale for a number of reasons.

For example a Christmas offer, valentine's day, clearance sale, etc. First a discount rule has to be defined. A defined discount rule is given a name, a priority (1, 2, 3, or n), a duration of validity (start date and end date), a type of discount rule (x pieces for y euro's), selection of shops which will apply the rules and articles which the discount rule will be applied to. Articles are selected based on supplier, brand, season, article group and article code. Discount rule's priority have precedent over one another. An article can have more than one discount rules applied to. But an article is not allowed to apply more than one rule at a time: the discount rule with the highest priority is applicable. These discounts are predefined in the back-office and become realized when an article is scanned at POS.

The type of discount rules which can be defined are: x pieces for y pieces, x pieces for y euro's, x pieces for y% and from x pieces for y%. These rules can be sorted by priority where the discount rule with the highest priority gets the first precedence. A discount rule should be within a valid date range. A discount rule should satisfy it's x-y definition. For example: x pieces should be scanned.

X pieces for y pieces

This type of discount rule is known as buy x pieces pay for y pieces.

For example, buy 2 articles and pay for 1 pieces (or get 1 free.) The article which will be free is the cheapest article of the x pieces. Using our example again: One article of 75,95 euro's and another article of 140,50 euro's; an article of 75,95 euro's will be given free. These articles should not have already had another discount given to.

X pieces for y euro's

This type of discount rule is similar to a discount rule set price on/off without actually changing the amount to y euro's and the number of pieces are a fixed x.

For example: three articles with the values of 109,45 euro's, 112,50 euro's and 104,95 euro's can together be sold for 300 euro's, giving a total discount of 26,90 euro's. This total amount will be deducted from each article from a given group of articles selected which the discount rule is applied to. In this case every article will be given a discount of 8,23 (26.90/326,90*100) percent. The article of 109.45 euro's will get 9,01 euro's discount, 112,50 euro's will get 9,26 euro's discount and 104,95 will get 8,64 euro's discount, which will give a total of 26,91 euro's discount. There is a one cent difference. This cent can be balanced at the last article by giving the article 8,63 euro's discount. This articles should not have already had another discount given to.

X pieces for y percent

This type of discount rule is similar to the discount rule x pieces for y euro's but instead using a discount percentage.

For example the three articles with the values 109,45 euro's, 112,50 euro's and 104,95 euro's can get a discount of 10,00 percent, giving a total discount of 32,69 euro's. This discount percentage will be deducted from each article from a given group of articles selected which the discount rule is applied to. In this case every article will be given a discount of 10 percent. The article of 109.45 euro's will get 10,95 euro's discount, 112,50 euro's will get 11,25 euro's discount and the article of 104,95 euro's will get 10,50 euro's discount, which will give a total of 32,70 euro's discount. There is a one cent difference. This cent can be balanced at the last article by giving the article 10,49 euro's discount. This articles should not have already had another discount given to.

From x pieces for y percent

This type of discount rule is similar to a discount rule x pieces for y percent but from x number of articles.

For example: four articles with the values 109,45 euro's, 112,50 euro's, 104,95 euro's and 79,95 euro's can get a discount of 10,00 percent, giving a total discount of 40,69 euro's. This discount percentage will be deducted from each article from a given group of articles selected which the discount rule is apply to. In this case every article will be given a discount of 10 percent. The article of 109.45 euro's will get 10,95 euro's discount, 112,50 euro's will get 11,25 euro's discount, 104,95 will get 10,50 euro's discount and 79,95 will get 8,00 euro's discount, which will give a total of 40,70 euro's discount.
